it’s album time | Music is a beautiful thing
Aaaahhh, some great albums dropped lately and I just have to play them here on Radio Darmstadt. For me, they all in some way more or less relate to general Weltschmerz, a feeling I and many of my peers perceive, the feeling that things around us are changing for the worse. I don’t know, maybe I’m reading too much into these albums. They are:
- Freak Slug’s Amulet: noticeably Freak Slug’s style, but also new and different, probably the album of this list that relates most to Weltschmerz
- Sophia Stel’s the greatest album of all time: highly anticipated by me (and many others I presume), love the blend of self-produced club/hyperpop beats with that melancholic vibe
- The Avalanches‘ No Bad Memories: absolutely great from start to finish, featuring lots of samples in classic Avalances style, and featuring a lineup of artists I also happen to enjoy so much (Barry Can’t Swim and John Glacier on a record? Aaaaahhhhh!!!)
- Chrome Sparks‘ Ball Of Light: lovely synth soundscapes from an artist I just discovered recently because this record features vocal performances from Emma Louise
Of course, between my faves from those records, I’ll play some of my other old and new picks. If you’re new here, in my monthly music show Music is a beautiful thing, I bring to you some of the songs I enjoyed over the past month in a variety of genres ranging from electronic, indie rock, pop, and hip hop.
